Now where were we?
Sorry about the long hiatus, everyone. We are back in action here in the States and ready for a New Year with new travels, new adventures, and of course new photos. I was fortunate enough to avoid the Christmas blizzard this year, in exchange for a full Christmas day of playing with elephants at the Elephant Nature Park (http://www.elephantnaturepark.org/), a shelter for abused elephants. This particular conservation project stands in contrast to the many other tourist driven elephant attractions throughout Thailand, as it is non-profit, using proceeds only to continue to buy and care for as many elephants-in-need as possible. Here you can see a bit about elephant “crushing,” the practice of making elephants submissive for the purpose of working for humans – (Warning: disturbing material) Click Here
It was so incredible to have the chance to actually interact with these, intelligent, beautiful, friendly creatures!
Here’s a few photos of our big friends, and stay tuned. There’s much more to come from the Land of Smiles! 🙂

>Elephants! They're my favorite animal. I love that you captured many sides of them: playful, graceful, curious, and just plain hungry.
Me too! It’s astonishing when you see one up close isn’t it? How was your elhneapt ride? When I went on one in Nepal four of us had to squeeze into a little crate type thing on top of the elhneapt, each of us taking a corner with a strut between our legs. Every time the elhneapt clambered down something (like a river bank) we’d shriek!
