Lions and Tigers and Bears, OH MY!
Ok, no lions, tigers or bears. But there were Elephants, Monkeys, and Strays (Dogs and Cats!)
And where do we seem to find the animals in the Southeast? Always at the temples. The cats sleep at the temples, the dogs sunbathe at the temples and the monkeys…own a temple. Yes, in Lopburi, a large family of monkeys have taken over a ruined Khmer style temple built in the 1200s. They freely roam the city on building scaffolding and suspended phone lines, but call the temple their home. They are surprisingly welcoming to new human friends, but are partial to shiny objects. So be sure keep an eye on your watches and jewelry, or you might be making some little monkey very rich and very happy.
Happy Travels!
