What more could one ask for than an all day lower east side rooftop BBQ with old friends at 87 degrees fahrenheit in May? How about the most gourmet Mexican spread I’ve never thought was possible. Yes, my interest in Mexican food has certainly been piqued. What were these three wonderful, colorful, dishes tickling my senses? I didn’t take the time to figure it out, just started digging in. A subsequent inspection of the menu revealed the most likely candidates: Chile Relleno – A giant chile poblano stuffed with black beans, and assortment of fresh seafood, cheese and sauces, Flautas (possibly), and Tamal Al Chipotle (another maybe). Regardless of their titles, they were the most delectable dishes I’ve experienced in as long as I can remember. Seriously. Special thanks to Courtney Beckett for her wonderful, last minute food shooting advice, and to Paul Cease for coming up from Florida and not having changed one iota in over 4 years. What a great day! I didn’t shoot at the BBQ, but highlights of the “Modern Mexican Cuisine” at Maya in Manhattan are below.
¡Que Aproveche!
